About Diabetic Foot Clinic

The diabetic foot clinic is headed by Dr Visakh Varma (MBBS ,MS,FPS,Mch).He is a certified podiatric and plastic surgeon rolled into one whose IKIGAI is to save feet.

He has done his training in Podiatric surgery(1 yr fellowship) and Mch in plastic surgery from Amrita institute of medical Sciences spending a major part of his surgical training focussing on the diabetic foot problem and its solutions. He is an ex -faculty of the same institute. Presently he is consulting at Shree Uttaradom Tirunal hospital,Pattom.

He routinely teams up with the best consultants of aligned specialities and actively invokes their expertise so that no aspect of the disease is neglected.

Dr.Visakh Varma has been trained as a microsurgeon in one of the best centres in India and has performed free flaps(harvested and anastomosed vessels) and replants .He was also a member of the team that did India’s first hand transplant and tracheal transplant. He also has been trained in several cosmetic procedures including hair transplant, rhinoplasty ,breast enhancement, breast reduction, ,abdominoplasty, body contouring and liposuction.

As a podiatric surgeon, he had privilege of working in the field of community diabetic foot salvage and lymphedema ,with extensive experience in screening and diagnostic investigations ,specialized foot wear, offloading and foot care ,surgical procedures and treatment modalities. His further specialisation in plastic surgery and microsurgical training equips him with skills and knowledge to provide more accurate decisions on the procedures available for limb salvage and optimize the treatment for every diabetic foot lesion.

# MS General Surgery Thesis-A Study of the Variables influencing the outcome in management of Diabetic Foot.
# Fellowship Thesis –Study of the relationship of VAC outcomes and Tcpo2 on diabetic foot ulcer.
# Use of PMMA implants in the reconstruction of destroyed foot bones-clinical audit and case series(co authored with Dr Ajith Varma, published in Journal of Diabetic foot complications ).
# Started work on outcomes of Microsurgical Free flaps on Diabetic foot wounds but abandoned due to scarcity of suitable cases at the institute during the time frame-planning to restart the study.
# Mch Thesis-Analysis of the feasibility of dental rehabilitation after mandibular reconstruction.
